Gotta love that childhood sing-song rhyme we all used to chant in elementary school! Who says we can’t say it  once we grow up? Thanks to the talents of the darling Merrymint gals, they used this rhyme to help me turn the song Jamie & I danced to at our wedding… into gorgeous art!

It’s SO easy to make one for yourself!
{This could also be an awesome anniversary gift, a meaningful Valentine’s Day gift, or the PERFECT gift for a wedding or bridal shower!}

#1) SUPPLIES - gather up your supplies. You don’t need a whole lot to make this darling piece of art! Grab a pair of scissors, adhesive of some type {I recommend something like this - it will pop things up to make them look more 3-D}, an 8×10 frame, 4 sheets of white cardstock, a black pen, distressing ink {totally optional}, and some cute ribbon or baker’s twine. Other then that – you just need the printables. I have them linked up below in the steps where you will need them.

#2) LYRICS - In Word, open up a new document and make sure it’s in “landscape” mode. Type up the lyrics to the song that has the most meaning to you & your spouse. If you can’t remember all of the words, you can Google it. I like to use this site to find mine but there are all sorts of websites out there that showcase song lyrics. Once you have your song typed up, it’s time to make it look FUN! You can bold the title, change different parts of the song to a different font, or even add color! Once you have it exactly the way you want it, copy the entire song and paste it over and over again in your document so the entire page is covered. {See example below.} If your song happens to be any of the following: Realize, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, Hold My Hand, and You Raise Me Up…. then you are in LUCK! I happened to create this for my family members for Christmas. Here’s the PDF for those songs.

#3) PRINTING THE LYRICS & TREE – Once you are finished typing up your lyrics, print them onto white cardstock. Once printed, put it back into the printer and print this PDF onto that sheet so the outline of the tree is on top of your lyrics.

#4) PRINTING THE HEARTS & TAG – You will also want to print off the “Heart” PDF {this has directions on it} and this cute “Tag” PDF. If you are giving this to your sweetheart or to a friend, you can hole-punch and attach the tag to the outside of your present.

#5) CUT – Time to cut everything out! Cut out all four hearts, the tree, and the tag if you’d like. You can also cut two 12-inch pieces of ribbon/twine. You will probably be cutting that length down but it’s better to be safe then sorry. :) Also cut out a piece of white cardstock to be the background for your art, you’ll want it to be sized 8×10 inches. If you want to change things up, you could also have a fun pattern for the background. I like the clean simplicity of a blank background, so I just used white.

#6) INK - This step is completely optional. I LOVE to ink, so I rubbed a little bit of black scrapbooking ink on the outside of the tree and the hearts. I LOVE the fluid chalk kind. It’s super easy to hold in your hand.

#7) WRITE – In your best handwriting, print your name on one of the smaller hearts and your sweetheart’s name on the other. OPTIONAL: You can also draw a tiny black heart on the tree… to look like a squirrel hole. :) Below is an up close peek at what mine looks like once finished…

#8) ADHERE - Time to put the tree on!! I like to use the square adhesives, it makes the tree/heart pop off the page to make it look a little more interesting. Place them on the back of your tree and attach the tree to your background.

#9) HEARTS/TWINE – Before securing the twine, I placed the hearts where I wanted them. I then secured the bottom of the twine {this would be covered by the heart} to the background page and then tied the top on the tree limb. Trim the ribbon/twine down once it’s tied. When I was done, I adhered the larger hearts on top.

#10) ALMOST DONE – Put your work of art inside your frame… don’t worry, the little hearts are coming…

#11) THE LITTLE HEARTS - Put adhesive on the smaller hearts, and put them on the glass of the frame… on the OUTSIDE! Yeppers, we threw in a little twist there. :) You can always put this part inside the frame if you want, but I LOVE the look of mine on the outside. Either way {inside or outside the frame}, I love how it looks when layering the hearts. It gives it a little border.

#12) WRAP ‘ER UP - You are DONE! Wrap that bad boy up to give to your sweetie!

You are going to LOVE looking at this new piece of decor in your home.

DIY crepe paper roses. i need to make these for valentines day! super easy & inexpensive too. Many Thanks to Amy from theidearom foe this tutorial. I love making paper roses I've been making roses from this kind of paper. The only difference I did is I cut the paper and rub it with scissor to emphasize the rose petals. But this is my favorite artwork! these are Beautiful, Easy & Adorable.

First off you will need a couple of rolls of tissue paper streamers. You can find them many places in many colors. Mine were $1 each.

Start by cutting the paper into strips about 24 inches long. Then crumple them up to make them softer {this part is optional, depends on what look you like–experiment}. Then fold the top 1/3 of it down so it is not as wide. {again…optional}

Now take your strip and start on one end and begin rolling it up between your fingers.

After you have a few rolls, continue to roll it up but now twist the paper.

Now just continue to roll and twist until you have reached the end of the strip. I liked to add a drop of hot glue to the end so they did not unravel.

After you have a few rosettes made, start gluing {I used a glue gun} them onto a round styrofoam ball. I used 2 and 3 inch ones to make them in different sizes. Just glue them close together and fit them in where they sit together nicely.

On this particular rosette ball, I did not twist the paper. I did some both ways and like that they come out a bit different. Below is a picture of one that I rolled AND twisted the strip of paper. Does that make sense? Can you see a difference?

The fun thing is to just try different things. You will eventually find something that works for you and your taste preferences.

Pretty easy right? These are the perfect thing to do when you are snowed in and watching your favorite TV program or chic flick!  Can’t find tissue paper streamers? You can get some here: Tissue Paper Streamers

We love Valentine’s Day! Check out this adorable DIY String Heart Tutorial by Green Wedding Shoes. You can give it as a gift or use it as a Home decor, It’s so cute that we couldn’t pass it up!
We got so many compliments on this giant string heart from The Cream – and the best part – it’s pretty easy to make one of these yourself! Such a rad piece for your reception decor that you can keep for your home also. :)

Materials Needed:

• piece of wood – the bigger the more dramtic!

• string – we used the pink neon thin rope you can find at Home Depot, but you could use any yarn or string

• box of nails (if want a nail with a decent head so the string won’t pop off)

• spray paint to paint the wood

• white paper to draw the heart on

Step 1: Spray paint the wood the background color you picked. We used dark gray, so the pink would really pop

Step 2: Once the paint is dry, tape the wood with the white paper and draw the heart shape on the paper

Step 3: Time to get the hammer out! Nail around the entire outline of the heart – we spaced our nails about an inch apart.

Step 4: Once all your nails are in. Remove the white paper and throw it away.

Step 5: Now the fun part. Get your string and tie a knot around the head of one of the nails. Keep stringing the string around nails. There isn’t a right or wrong way – just keep going until you like the pattern you created. I also then outlined the entire heart to make the outline pop a bit more also.

Total cost for this project – $35 (the most expensive part is the wood!) and it can be done in a few hours. There are so many different ways you can customize this DIY for your own wedding day, right? So fun.

I love me some gold! And today’s DIY is no exception! I have definitely been in a gold kind of crafting mood lately—which is not a bad thing, am I right?

Last week, I used this same Krylon 18kt. gold spray paint to upcycle a flower basket into a cool jewelry organizer. I have definitely had my share of crafty adventures with rocks—like vision rocks, or painted face rocks—but today is all about the glamor!

All the step-by-step instructions you need are:

1- spray paint river rocks with gold spray paint (you can find these rocks in the garden center of your local hardware store. Gold spray paint can be found online, at your local craft store, or at your local hardware store.

2- when rocks are painted on both sides and dry, around onto a decorative plate and arrange around candles to create a pretty centerpiece.

Look how sparkly and luscious these rocks look!

Bring a little glam to something ordinary and from nature!

Paper Birdhouse! Fill with candy and treats for Easter, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas... change the paper to fit the occasion! LOVE!

I made up these little bird houses which are filled with mini eggs using a favourite template of mine which is the  bird box template by Nicole Heady .

I only made a slight change to the design. The roof is all one piece normally and stuck onto the house so once its glued you have to rip it open to get to the contents.  These are such pretty things I wanted people to be able to keep them and reuse them.

Once I had cut out and scored the design, I made little slits just wide enough for a ribbon to be pushed through at the base of each side panel and then again in the score line on each edge of the side panel.

(inside of box)

The ribbon is hidden inside the box and just pulled through the slits at the top to hold the roof in place once its attached.  I cut out the heart shaped window with the PTI heart dies and put some acetate inside to stop the contents coming out.

For the roof, I cut two strips of cardstock the same size (8cm x 9cm) and scored and folded one end at 1 cm and cut a slit the width of the ribbon at other end approx 1 cm from the edge.  I threaded the ribbon through the slit of one panel and fixed to the bird house with double sided tape but left the scored section unattached.  I threaded the ribbon through the other roof panel and lay the panel on top of the other one at the score fold, pulled the ribbon to the top and tied in a bow to hold it all in place and the contents secure.

This way when untied, one side opens right up so you can get your hands
on the goodies inside and reuse it when empty.

I made a couple more, one a little larger than the other two (I just enlarged on a photocopier).

I used a collection of doubled sided patterned papers called Flower Garden from Tilda (the same designs as the Tilda doll from my last post).  The solid cardstock in PTI.

Those little chocs scattered on the table for decoration purposes are sadly no more, I ate them all!  I am on a diet presently, two weeks in and although I've lost 6 1/2 lbs so far, I just can't resist a choc when presented to me!

Have a great evening all.

I thought some of you would enjoy a quick tutorial on how to make those little paper flowers I used as part of my table setting a couple weeks ago. The credit for these go to Martha Stewart (I saw this idea nearly 10 years ago in her magazine, but haven't been able to find it on her website). So here I go..

Step 1: Draw a spiral on a 4x4" square sheet of paper

Step 2: Cut out spiral along lines you have drawn

Step 3: Begin rolling up the spiral from the outside

Step 4: Keep on rolling until there's no more left to roll

Step 5: You're done!

I used a slightly heavier weight paper for this one, but you can use normal paper as well. You can use squares of various sizes to have different sized flowers. Besides sticking them on branches, they would be great scattered on the table as well. Heck, you can even make a little bouquet of them. Have fun!

Note: You may use a bit of glue or double-stick tape to keep the flower from unrolling and loosening up with time. I didn't glue the ends for these specific flowers and they held up alright.

Lights are an integral part of holiday decorating, that much is true. But beyond the classic lights on the tree, lights on the house, lights on the.... stairway (?) what else is there to do?

For those of you who still have to sort out your last minute holiday decorations (like me, let's be honest) I thought I'd show you a super quick DIY project that will add a little whimsy to your holiday light displays (and let's face it, you're gonna want to leave this up all year).

This project was so easy, and the best part was, the only cost was the $2 strand of lights from Walmart's holiday section!

What you need:

-Sticks
-Stones
-Strand of Lights
-Hot glue.

To start, arrange your stones in a circle of whatever size you'd like your base to be. If for some reason, you feel like you're going to want to move this display, or if you're not building it exactly where you're leaving it, I would suggest constructing it on a piece of plywood for easy handling.

Next, prop up your sticks in a "teepee" shape like you would a real fire pit. I chose to use a bit of hot glue at the top to secure them in this position so that they would be as stable as possible. And also because I had a hard time convincing my kitty to just stop and admire the beauty of it, instead of crashing wildly through the middle of it in a mad frenzy. Funny, that.

How are you spicing up your holiday lights?

Are you in the mood to make an adorable holiday project? You are? Good! Because today I’m going to share my spin on the trendy and adorable bottle brush christmas tree. I’ll be honest, I tried to make the bottle brush trees before and didn’t have much luck but I thought I would try with yarn after seeing this tutorial from my blogger pal Virginia on Fynes Designs. The yarn just seems a bit more user friendly and you skip the messy dying part.

I found these beautiful brass skinny candle stick holders at Goodwill and this is the perfect time to use them, along with the trees and some birch bases from last year’s holiday centrepiece to make a new centrepiece for this year’s dining table.  Head over to Fynes Design to see the full tutorial – you’ll need some yarn, wire, wood or cork bases and pliers & scissors to make it happen.

Once you’ve actually made the trees comes the best part, trimming them! They’ll look pretty raggedy at first but don’t worry, they’ll look better once you give them a haircut. Call me crazy or a wannabe hairstylist but I really enjoyed trimming the yarn to reveal the cute little tree under that mess. I didn’t have any cork so I just cut up some wood I had laying around and spray painted it gold. You could also use playdough or clay for the base if you’re not into tools.

Before you know it you’ll have a colourful forest. I just love playing with colour combos. If you’re totally cray cray you can even play with multiple colours in one tree.

Then set up your elements to create your centrepiece. There’s no real  ‘how to’ to creating this look but a good tip is to play with heights to create a great balance.

Oh and shocking, my centrepiece matches my upcyled dining chair perfectly. Can you say predictable when it comes to colours? I didn’t even have to buy any of this yarn, I had it kicking around.  I’m loving my fresh & modern centrepiece this year and along with my Holiday Cheers bar sign, I’m ready to party!

These trees will look great as decor anywhere in your house. I can picture a fire mantle FULL of them. The more the merrier.
